Oracle EPM 26.07: Check Your OAuth 2 Connections

Not every major Oracle EPM update introduces a new button or screen. Some changes aren’t noticeable until an automated process stops working. With update 26.07, Oracle is introducing mandatory changes to existing OAuth 2 configurations.

The current grant type can still be used, but from now on, the configuration must be explicitly linked to the correct EPM Cloud service.

In addition, the following must be done, among other things:

  • the appropriate EPM Cloud service is added as a resource to the Integrated Application;
  • A Secondary Audience can be set up for each EPM Cloud service;
  • the service-specific scope is used when requesting tokens;
  • In Device Code integrations with Refresh Token, a new initial refresh token is generated.

OAuth is usually invisible to users. The consequences of an incorrect configuration, however, are not. Automated processes that connect via EPM Automate or REST APIs may no longer function properly as a result.

Our advice:

Don't just check whether a token can be created; test the entire chain—from authentication all the way through to executing the actual EPM task. Do this separately for Test and Production environments, because tokens are linked to a specific EPM Cloud service.

  • Smart: Identify which processes use OAuth.
  • Simple: Use a single, fixed checklist for each environment that covers resources, audience, scope, and tokens.
  • Solid: Test the entire chain—from authentication to execution—in both Test and Production environments.

Are you unsure whether your Oracle EPM environment is properly prepared for this change?
